Pizza as a Vegetable? Congress Proposes New School Lunch Bill

Congress wants pizza and french fries to stay on school lunch lines and is fighting the Obama administration's efforts to take unhealthy foods out of schools.

The final version of a spending bill released late Monday would unravel school lunch standards the Agriculture Department proposed earlier this year. These include limiting the use of potatoes on the lunch line, putting new restrictions on sodium and boosting the use of whole grains. The legislation would block or delay all of those efforts.

The bill also would allow tomato paste on pizzas to be counted as a vegetable, as it is now.

  2. If they take Pizza out of my kids school they will revolt! That is one of their favorite things the cafeteria offers!

  3. OMG pizza and french fries do not belong in schoolcafeterias they are special occasion food only.

    Dont people know how unhealthy these foods are WTF is wrong with them for wanting to give children these kinds of food day in day out. People who want these foods removed are generally concerned for the health of the young. Anyone who voted against it really doesnt gives 2 sh*ts about others and just wants that paper at any cost.
